SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROBERT GRAMBLING
Submitted by Greg Grambling
YES SPORTS FANS, WE HAVE MADE IT TO THE FINAL FOUR. THERE MAY BE SOME CLASS PICTURES SOMEWHERE BUT THIS LOOKS LIKE THE END OF THE RFG COLLECTION. LET’S GET STARTED:
I PROMISED YOU ONE WITH NO HUMANS AND HERE IT IS. THE BEAGLE, COOKIE, WAS INTENTLY LICKING HER NETHER REGIONS WHEN THE KITTEN, PUFF, NOTICED HER LACK OF VIGILANCE. NO SELF RESPECTING KITTEN IS GOING TO LET SUCH AN OPPORTUNITY PASS AND HE DIVED IN LIKE A BUZZARD ON ROAD-KILL. COOKIE QUICKLY REGAINED HER COMPOSURE AND LICKED HIM UNTIL HE WAS HALF DROWNED. THEY THEN CUDDLED UP AND SLEPT FOR THE REST OF THE WEEK. Greg Grambling.

This photo is on page 6 of the 1958 Grig. L to R: Unknown with back to camera, Carolyn McGinty, Gloria West,
Wanda Miller, Linda White, Zannia Lou McDade, Ellen Baker, Mrs. Rita Crowder, Catsy Harper hugging Camille Ivy.

Basketball Sweetheart Jeannine Mobley hands the ball to Jack Moreland - Pg. 110 1956 Grig
L-R: James Rhea Love, Wilbur Roden, Don Martin, Cecil Maxey, Jack Moreland
Identified by Greg Grambling and Ann Mays Harlan (Jeannine is now the wife of James Rhea Love).

Cecil Maxey is on the left side of the court. He died in May 2004.

The great Jackie Moreland and Barbara Russell known for her team spirit pose admire the basketball trophy.

I think the person on the far right partially showing is James Alan Norris.

Looks like Charles Berry, Class of 57, running track. What was the building used for
in the background? Was it part of Webster Parish Bus School Board
where they parked their buses?

Handoff ABA
The boy on the left looks like Tommy Frye. The one on the right looks much older.

-----------
The reason this picture caught Connie's eye when she saw it on the CD Greg gave her was that the guy
receiving the handoff looked like Bob Holiday, who was the youth director at FMD several summers.
Greg thinks he played professionally for the 49ers. Can anyone confirm this or give another ID to the guy
with receding curly hair?

anonymous.
Is Terry Love left-handed?
He always batted left handed but he was right handed.
Gary Grambling
Maybe a reader can identify the batter, umpire & other ball players. If so e-mail MindenMemories@AOL.Com
RE: THE PICTURE WITH TERRY LOVE BATTING YOU ASKED ABOUT THE CATCHER AND
THE UMPIRE. THE UMPIRE WAS PROBABLY BUCK HORN. ANY TIME YOU SEE AN
UMPIRE OF A MINDEN LITTLE LEAGUE GAME AND YOU DON'T KNOW WHO IT IS, SAY
IT'S BUCK HORN AND YOU HAVE A GOOD CHANCE OF BEING RIGHT. IF IT'S NOT
HIM, YOU CAN BE SURE HE CALLED EITHER THE GAME BEFORE THAT ONE OR THE
ONE AFTER.

Jimmy Russell and Buck Horn getting and award around 1952

That is our '54 Chevy, sitting in our driveway, behind the third base dugout. Green with a white top, bought new in 1954.
The Ford looks like it's probably a '53 or '54, and the other car looks newer than the other two, but I can't tell what it is.
The big kid with no hat may be Palmer Pratt. Far left may be Danny Nation, far right looking left could be Bill Cranford. All three are wild guesses.

REDBIRDS BALL CLUB PLAYING AT GRIFFITH STADIUM
Notice the old CVOC buildings in the background?
The Stadium was built by the fair gounds behind the Minden Trade School near my home
after they moved from Hunter's Park.
These pictures bring back many fond memories of the Big 8.

Remember, we could get in the ball games free when we were kids?
All we needed was a nickel for a coke!
