Maurice's tour in the Air Force was 1951 to 1955, with duty
stations at Pope AFB (North Carolina), NAHA AFB (Okinawa), and Maxwell AFB
(Alabama). He was assigned to crash/rescue fire departments at each
location. He played football on the 20th Air Force and the Rycom
Conference championship teams on Okinawa. He also played on the Air Force
all star team that beat the Army all stars in the Okinawa Typhoon bowl. The
Air Force team those two years won all their games, except a tie with Clark
AFB in the Philippines and a loss to Ashia AFB in Japan. He played baseball
one year at Maxwell AFB, where he was discharged as a Staff Sergeant.
