Narrative:
Anyone who went through Minden High School in the early 1960's will remember
Leon A. Stamm and they will remember that he was honest, diligent, and fair
to his fellow students. As a senior on the MHS Football Team in the fall of
1962, Leon made the All-District Team. He was also a valuable member of the
MHS Choir. Most of all, he was a Christian gentleman and was reared well by
his parents Henry & Margaret Stamm.
After graduating from MHS Leon went to Louisiana Tech and graduated from the
school in 1968. He went through Air Force ROTC at Tech and received his USAF
Commission in 1969. Later Leon received his Masters degree and in 1972
married Karen Burris of Belleville, IL. They have four children: Amy
Beasley of Ruston, LA; Keeley Klopfer, Dallas, TX; Clayton Stamm and
Caroline Stamm of Ruston, LA
Leon, to no one's surprise, became the consumate good airman. He allowed
the military to send him where they wanted and he served in many locations
both in the U.S. and overseas. Toward the end of his career he returned to
Tech where he served as Head of AFROTC. At that time he had achieve the
rank of Colonel. Leon retired from the Air Force several years ago and is
now a JROTC instructor in Germany.
If one has the opportunity to talk or visit with Leon it will be apparent
that prosperity has not changed him one bit. He is still the good-natured
person that we all knew in 1963.
